Onderko Finishes 9th After front end damage
8-30-09
Hazelton, PA -
Originally set for Saturday the 29th,
racing was cancelled due to the threat of
rain and rescheduled for Sunday the 30th.
Saturday night was spent going over the
setup for the 31. After several spring
changes, chamber and sway bar adjustments,
the team felt the 31 was ready to see the
track.
The team was up early on Sunday anticipating
a full day of racing. This would be the
first time back to Sundance Vacation
Speedway since the rear let loose several
weeks ago. In addition to a new rear, they
also had the 31’s power plant redone.
Justin and the 31 rolled off for the first
round of practice. Justin soon realized the
car was tight in the center and loose up off
the turns. Once back in the pits, Justin
said to his crew chief, “I thought we would
have been closer than that with the setup we
gave her - she just wouldn’t hold the
track”. The team jumped into action and made
several more adjustments and got the car
ready for the second practice.
Justin got tied up with some slower cars in
round two and really could not let the 31
loose, but when practice was over his
comment was, “We’re moving in the right
direction. She definitely likes what we’re
doing.”
The team made a few more minor adjustments
and got the 31 ready for the “Heat Race”.
Justin started 6th when the green dropped
and quickly set his sights on moving through
the pack. The end of lap one saw the 31 move
up into 5th place. Two laps later after
driving through the middle of the 27 of
Schneider and the 17 of Hawk, Justin took
the 31 to 4th place, which is where he
finished.
Justin
remarked after the Heat Race, “Her tail was
all over the place. She wasn’t hooking up
coming off of two, but she was fast. I think
we can get her dialed in for the feature”.
Justin and his crew chief briefly talked
about the changes to be made for the feature
and the team went to work once again.
The feature had Justin and the 31 sitting in
the 9th starting slot and at the drop of the
green flag the feature was fairly
uneventful. Justin was able to get the 31
into the 8th position but after sustaining
some front end sheet metal damage on lap 22,
slid back into the 9th spot when he took the
checkered flag.
